"Marvel and DC Comics, the undisputed champs of direct market super-comics, both had fairly huge books come out this week. For Marvel, it was Amazing Spider-Man #583, the guest-star of which helped garner the company a huge media splash, inside the comics industry and outside. For DC, it was the penultimate chapter of their years-in-the-making (and marketing) crossover series Final Crisis #6, which contained what would, in different circumstances, have seemed like a pretty huge development.

...

Well, they're both fairly terrible." - Ron Bailey

"For example, Mark Millar's Ultimates series was meant to be high-octane action with a healthy dollop of today's post-9/11 cynicism. Shown through the "camera" of Bryan Hitch, the series was larger than life yet extremely down to earth — characters' abs were not seen bursting through their spandex, and costume designs such as Iron Man's armor were not the streamlined outfits of old, but more clunky, realistic images. The level of detail meant that readers took the story seriously, and because Millar worked strenuously to create a world not too different from ours, the series was a critically-acclaimed success.

"Now imagine, if you will, if Rafael Albuquerque drew Ultimates. I can pretty much assure you that the series would not have ranked nearly as well, because Albuquerque's style is more cartoony and emotional. In other words, good chops, but not for this story." - Ron Bailey

I may play with it myself sometime in the future (hopefully once it stops choking on attempts to hook up my Blogger account ^_^).

"ANN ARBOR, Mich., Jan. 22, 2009 /PRNewswire/ — Domino's Pizza (NYSE:DPZ), the recognized world leader in pizza delivery, is showing off its menu - and its CEO. After Domino's Oven Baked Sandwiches recently beat Subway's equivalent sandwiches by an incredible 2-to-1 margin in a national taste test, Domino's received a letter from Subway demanding it cease and desist from running advertising featuring the independently researched claim.

"Domino's has not only refused to pull the work, it has responded by launching a new TV spot featuring Chairman and CEO David A. Brandon playfully burning up Subway's letter in one of the 450-degree ovens used to bake its victorious sandwiches."
