shitloadsofwrestling: Salvatore Bellomo [1993] Though not widely regarded as a legend these days, Salvatore Bellomo certainly had a career that would define him as such. His career stretched over 3 decades, and in that time, Bellomo performed everywhere from the NWA to WWE to ECW. He gained upset wins over guys like Johnny Rodz, Butcher Vachon, and nearly gained a win over then-WWF Champion Bob Backlund. Sadly, this led to Bellomo, though he was an incredible, solid worker, becoming a jobber to the stars. This didn’t halt his career from being noteworthy, as he was in the ring with several great performers in the 80’s and even made an appearance on Piper’s Pit. In 1993, Bellomo debuted in ECW (when it was known as Eastern Championship Wrestling) and almost became the first ever ECW Heavyweight Champion, nearly gaining a win over Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka. Bellomo didn’t rest easy chasing the title, giving Snuka run as champion that many would have eventually fell to. Unfortunately, Bellomo never reached the pinnacle of success in ECW. Instead, he continued to train young superstars and made several indie appearances before retiring in 2006.
