wcwworldwide: Hulk Hogan WCW Contract Signing Event at the Disney World [June 11th, 1994] Whenever Hulk Hogan signed up with World Championship Wrestling, WCW threw a full blown ticker-tape parade for the Hulkster at the MGM Studios Lot at Disney World. The entire segment was filmed not only to showcase the fact that WCW had the biggest World Wrestling Federation star signed to their roster but to also drum up attention towards the Hulk Hogan vs Ric Flair match at the Bash at the Beach PPV. However, despite the overblown announcement and celebration, Hulk Hogan didn’t do much to help WCW ratings at all. Bischoff admitted to this and a bit more in his 2006 book, Controversy Creates Cash: "[T]he truth is, Hulk Hogan didn’t boost our viewership very much that year. Except for the first Pay-Per-View match between him and Ric Flair, where the buy rate was 1.3 percent, he did not have the impact on ratings we’d hoped. His shows didn’t really move the needle. There were a number of reasons. Hogan’s character had gotten a little stale. And the whole red-and-yellow, say-your-prayers, eat-your-vitamins thing clashed with the [WWF] steroids controversy. His credibility had been damaged.” "Hogan also didn’t play that well with the audience WCW already had. Viewers who had watched WCW when it was NWA and Georgia Championship Wrestling, going way back, looked at Hogan kind of like an unwelcome guest. Hogan coming to WCW was like Roger Clemens coming to the New York Yankees. Yankee fans thought of him as a member of the hated Boston Red Sox, and didn’t warm up to him right away. To bring in Hulk Hogan appeared to be a version of wrestling blasphemy. The hard-core fan just didn’t understand why we would bring him in, and many peripheral mainstream viewers just didn’t care."
