It’s a problem for Twitter. It’s not that hard to defend against attacks aimed at gaming trending topics. After all, there are only a couple of them at any given time, and when the Twitter admins see a topic that’s obviously spammy or fake, they can just remove it manually. But stifling the creation of fake accounts is harder.
