Fans Predict Taylor Swift as Big Winner at 'CMA Awards' in Annual CMT Poll

Fans Predict Taylor Swift as Big Winner at 'CMA Awards' in Annual CMT Poll

"If fans have their way, Taylor Swift could walk away with as many as three wins in the categories of Entertainer, Female Vocalist, and Album of the Year at the "The 43rd Annual CMA Awards", according to CMT's fourth annual poll. Swift would become the youngest artist ever to win Entertainer and join an elite group of only six other women -- the Dixie Chicks, Loretta Lynn, Barbara Mandrell, Dolly Parton, Reba and Shania Twain -- who have received the CMA's highest honor. A win in this category would also mark the first win for a female since the Dixie Chicks took the top prize in 2000."

Rock Band Network Announced Today

Rock BandImage via Wikipedia

MTV Games and Harmonix Empower Artists and Labels to Get Their Music in the Game with the Rock Band Network:
"CAMBRIDGE, Mass. and NEW YORK, July 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Harmonix Music Systems and MTV Games, a part of Viacom's MTV Networks (NYSE: VIA, VIA.B), today announced the Rock Band Network, a ground-breaking initiative that gives musicians and record labels the ability to author their own original recordings into gameplay files and sell their music as playable Rock Band tracks through the newly-created Rock Band Network Music Store. The introduction of the Rock Band Network marks a fundamental shift in the exposure music games can give emerging and established artists through innovative technologies that will open new revenue streams and promotional avenues.

"The Rock Band Network will launch as an open beta in late August 2009 in the U.S. and provide a sophisticated toolset, with detailed documentation on how bands can begin the process of authoring songs into Rock Band gameplay files. Authors will be able to submit tracks for playtesting and peer review via a specialized Web site, Creators.RockBand.com. Potential publishers will need a membership to Microsoft's XNA Creators Club Online in order to test and publish game content. The service will only be available to those who purchase a premium membership to Microsoft's XNA Creators Club Online, which can be purchased for four months at $49.99 or for a year at $99.99."

The grand opening of Yahoo! Music

Yahoo! Inc.Image via Wikipedia
I found this fascinating quote today:

So now we can be all things to all music people with a little help from our industry friends. The new Yahoo! Music Artist Pages now bring together downloads from iTunes, albums from Amazon; streams from Pandora, Last.fm and Rhapsody; music videos from YouTube; and tickets from Ticketmaster – for more than 500,000 artists. We also include photos from Flickr as well as our own Yahoo! music videos. You can customize your Artist Pages to include your favorite content modules. Previously a closed service with proprietary licensed content, this is the first major effort by any online music site to truly open itself up to third-party services. The grand opening of Yahoo! You should read the whole article. Sure, it's over a week old, but still...

The Most Popular Music of 2008: iTunes vs Last.fm

The Most Popular Music of 2008: iTunes vs Last.fm

Mashable sez:

"Not surprisingly, the iTunes list is much more reflective of the pop charts, while Last.fm – a music discovery service – has some lesser known artists in its rankings. Interesting to note is the absence of hip-hop on the Last.fm list, and the lack of Country on both end-of-year charts. Coldplay, however, appears to be universally popular."
