Doing things with Flickr....

Flickr Logo Beta-1 Here's a great collection of tools, projects and Flickr toys via the Flickr blog - the latest one really looks fun. Mediamatic held another in their series of Flickr event in Amsterdam on September 19th. Called Playing Flickr v2.0, the event was held in the city's Post CS building and involved attendees SMSing tags to a server which then displayed photos matching those tags on a series of giant screens. Flickr user slabbers grabbed the shot at right of one of his own photos appearing on screen. Link.

GISuser.com posted a photo:

1900 Galveston hurricane Track

This map shows the path of the un-named hurricane that struck Galveston, Texas in 1900. It made landfall as a category 4 hurricane and was the most destructive hurricane ever in North America. Currently, Rita has measured as the 3rd stringest recorded hurricane on record and is following a very similar path. This map was derived from the NOAA historical hurricane track IMS found at hurricane.csc.noaa.gov/hurricanes/ - created and posted by www.GISuser.com

Rita and Google Earth overlays

Rita2.Thumb DIY Weather channel - Ivo Janssen writes "I was browsing the Hurricane Rita path on the NOAA website, and then realized that Google Earth does image overlays. So I turned NOAA's boring picture into fascinating 3D views of the hurricane path. Currently, it's slated to miss Austin, make landfall at Matagorda Bay, take US-77 to Temple and Waco and then go on over Forth Worth". Link.

Job Listings + Google Maps (+ other cool technologies) = SimplyHired

SimplyHired does some cool stuff like linking to PayScale for salary comparison, and [my fave] mapping job opportunities with Google Maps. This can be quite helpful if you're moving to a new city and want to know where the job is, or you just want to compare commute options or neighborhoods. Oh! I think I saw some AJAX here and there, too!
