wcwworldwide: Jushin “Thunder” Liger vs Psicosis - WCW Monday Nitro [12/6/1999] One of the things I really enjoyed about WCW was how Mike Tenay and others would openly discuss wrestling promotions outside of America. Liger was a guy that would periodically show up in WCW to compete but during this particular run, he ended up being involved in a controversial angle that infuriated New Japan Pro Wrestling. Liger came across to defend his IWGP Light Heavyweight Championship against Juventud Guerrera on Nitro and ended up losing the title after getting a bottle of tequila smashed across his head by Guerrera. Liger would ended up regaining his championship seven days later in this match against Psicosis (who was subbing for an injured Juventud), but this title change went unreported by New Japan Pro Wrestling due to the embarrassing nature of Liger’s loss. NJPW eventually would recognize Juventud Guerrera’s win and to this day, Guerrera still holds the record for the shortest reign as the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion with seven days.
